Tuticorin: With the objective of creating awareness among the vendors
about their rights, which they were entitled to, the members of the
National Association of Street Vendors of India took out an awareness
rally here on Tuesday.

S. Murugan, Programme Manager, NASVI, who led the rally, said the
rally was taken out with a view to urge the government to implement
the national policy for urban street vendors. He said the government
should take concrete steps to set up welfare board for the street
vendors. “The National policy insists upon legal status for the
vendors, provision of identity cards, markets for the street vendors
and social security schemes for their welfare,” he said. Lots of
street vendors including fishermen and fisherwomen took part.
